YA Birmingham Book Club

Tuesday 1 July 2014

We are pleased to announce that we will be holding a YA Book Club once a month, starting on Friday 11th July at 7pm.

The Book Club will differ from our fan parties as we will be expecting a smaller turn out which will allow us to all sit down (on chairs!) and actually TALK about the books we love. Because we want it to be a proper Book Club, rather than a party, we therefore won't be doing raffles or give-aways, we will concentrate solely on talking about a couple of particular books. This way, if you don't want to come to a particular month, you won't miss out on any goodies as they will always be reserved for the Fan Parties. We will provide drinks.

The first books we are going to concentrate on are Fault in Our Stars and Will Grayson, Will Grayson. It doesn't matter if you haven't read both of these books, the first meeting will really be an introduction so we can see how best to run them.

We will be discussing the things such as;

*What we liked and disliked (if anything!) about the book
*Favourite characters, quotes and scenes
*Dream cast (or whether cast chosen was right)
*What books you'd recommend to people who've enjoyed that book
*Recommends for future Book Club books

At each meeting we will announce the title of the next book we'll be focusing on so that you have plenty of time to read it before the next meeting. We will also work out a schedule so that we can let you know when the next few meetings will be (it's all a work in progress at the minute so please bear with us whilst we find our feet with it all!)

So far the schedule is;

Friday 11th July  at 7pm – Introductory Book Club. Fault in Our Stars by John Green and Will Grayson, Will Grayson by David Levithan.

Friday 25th July at 7pm – Dead Ends by Erin Lange

From then on it will be once a month, dates to be confirmed.

I hope to see people at the meetings, it is just another way of promoting and supporting YA books in Birmingham, and the more we do this, the more events we will get in future :)

Many thanks, Gem and Bex xxx
